Morigaon College was established with a view to providing higher education to the people at the door -step with out any discrimination to any one on the basis of caste, religion, and nationality. Man cannot attain perfection without higher studies . The humen resourse  cannot be developed without an aim oriented higher education. to spread higher education in the locality,  Morigaon College  was step up in the year 1964. Prior to it there was no institution of  higher education except Nowgaon College in the Nowgaon District . The vast Area from Nowgaon town to Mayang , covering an area of about 2000square Kilometer without any institution for higher education . Student who passed the high school cannot go out side the district for higher education at a ditance of 30 . to 60 Kilometer Morigaon at the time was a big cultural village surrounded by many villages . Ninety percent of the inhabitants are agriculturists and poor wage earner. They cannot afford college education for there children and have to put an end their student career To spread  the benifit of education to poor and downtrodden the Morigaon College was establish in the year 1964. It was the only post metric institution in an area of more then 2000 square Kilometer . The people of the area took it as  a movement. and came forward with donation and collections. They thought the  institution would be acenter of excellence for the future generation. The mission is however fulfilled for it importents the best education to several thousands of students in the past 42 years. The mission of the women education is also fulfilled for the rate of percantege of women literacy in respect of  higher education in the district is now satisfactory. With the introduction of the science stream, the reason is now free from every kind of illogical and unscientific temperaments and the students are in a position to address/approach life is never before scientific point of view. Many alluminies of the college are now in different exalted position of the society.

        The affairs of the College are managed bi a Governing Body .The GB and the principal has control over and is responsible for the maintenance of standards of education inter-Departmental coordination, examination  and research infrastructure development of the college.

        The institute is situated on a 32 bigha site on the Nowgaon-Morigaon Highway. It has its Administrative Block, Acade,ic Block, Auditorium, Conference Hall, Library, Boy's Hostel, Girl's Hostel, Gymnasium,PlayGround,Botanical Garden, Canteen, and Stuff Quarters/Guest House, Basket Ball Court, all on the campus
